United States Postal Service
The United States Postal Service was a Utility Supplier that lost the benefits of being an exclusive supplier of services. Fifty years ago small packages and the mail were delivered by the United States Post Office. Large freight was delivered by commercial freight companies.
United Parcel Service, with their package deliveries started the Post Office on a decline. Postal Labor Unions demands for the postal employees further weakened the Post Office’s slim profitability. FedEx arrived to once again cut into the United States Postal Service’s customers; then AMAZON and emails appeared to finally decimate any viable profitability of the United States Postal Service.
Maybe deliver the regular mail every other day and use the special postal services, or UPS and FedEx for mail that needs immediate attention.
Why not put the United States Postal Service out to Bid? Letters must be delivered at $.50 cents and the winning company must take on all present United States Postal employees, purchase or lease all existing post offices and equipment.
If nothing else thinking outside the box may have hidden advantages and results; tariffs on small packages not delivered by the United States Post Office, like Amazon.
