Congress must SOLVE DREAMERS STATUS
President Obama said they could stay, President Trump said they must go and now President Elect Biden wants to return to letting them stay. It is the Congress that needs to act to resolve this issue.
Before trying to solve the DACA “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” – Perhaps Congress should first clarify residency in AMERICA, and its benefits. This action could possibly solve the “Dreamers” dilemma at the same time. Congress could determine categories that could be used by Immigration, Future Census Bureau and DOHS.
Suggestions:
AMERICAN CITIZEN – has the right to vote, obtain a passport and full access to American public rights and benefits.
AMERICAN RESIDENTS – would NOT have the right to vote, have a different passport “An American Resident” passport, obtain drivers licenses, social security numbers, work and pay taxes like citizens. Dreamers with clean records could be placed in this category while applying to become American Citizens.
NON AMERICAN RESIDENT – would NOT have the right to vote, could not obtain a passport and would have restricted rights as determined by Congress, Dreamers with minor criminal offences could fit into this category. Parents of DREAMERS and Foreign Workers could fit into this category – their children would fit one of the above categories.
ILLEGAL ALIENS & DREAMERS with serious criminal offenses should be deported.
Illegal Aliens with jobs and good records should have a system or path to Non-American Resident or American Resident with path to citizenship.
If Congress were to develop categories similar to these it might solve the dilemma Congress has with DACA “The Dreamers”
